D3: Trekking to the Black Sea

How many days have I been here again? One? Oh, dear lord.

Today was a long one. I think I fell asleep around 5 am, woke up at 10ish and headed to the Gorki Media Center in the mountains, which is about a 15-minute walk from my hotel, for my first press conference. Halfpipe snowboarding. Easy. Or so I thought.

As I was writing up a piece on the team’s introduction to the Olympic media, Shaun White released a statement to the Today show prepared earlier in the week that he was dropping out of slopestyle. He didn’t mention any of this in the hourlong press conference that had ended 30 minutes earlier, nor was he available for comment afterward. So that’s when we all got busy.

I wrote THIS PIECE and then hopped on a bus for the hour-plus-long ride down to the Main Media Center in Adler to meet my colleagues for a safety briefing and dinner at an Italian restaurant. In Russia. Obviously. But first, I filmed a video segment on White with my colleague, Julie Foudy, and talked to ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer.

I got home around 1 a.m. and went straight to bed to finish the nap I started on the bus ride home.
