This morning, longtime sportswriter Steve Buckley of the Boston Herald wrote a moving column he called his Coming Out Party. In it, he reveals to his readers that he is gay.

I don’t know Steve, but he is a good friend of one of my best friends and many of my colleagues. He told them earlier this week that this column was a long time coming and he was ready for whatever reaction he receives. Hopefully the reaction he is greeted with today is more positive than it was for the last person brave enough to do this, and hopefully it will be even more positive for the next guy. I can’t imagine how tough this was for someone who works in this testosterone-fueled world of sports. But he’s a wonderful example for the rest of the sports world. And the world world.
