Second-Stringers and Staches …

After more than a year in the making, my story on backup QBs, as exemplified by Todd Collins of the Chicago Bears (among other teams), is finally out. It was one of my favorite stories to report and I left the experience with a new respect for what is required of the position–-easily the most underrated in sports. Check it out online here.

Also, I did my first piece for ESPN New York, on Yankees OF NIck Swisher taking part in the men’s health charity Movember. Check out that story, and video of Swisher getting his first straight-razor shave, HERE. Those of you who know me know I am a big fan of Movember, and have been writing about the organization and taking part in their monthlong fundraising efforts for a few years now. Obviously I can’t grow a mustache, but women take part by encouraging the men in our lives to grow staches during November, by raising awareness of men’s cancers (Did you know 1-in-2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in his lifetime? And 1-in-6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer?) and by raising money.

So, on that note, if you’d like to donate to the cause in the name of my team (Money, Cash, Mo’s), click here. Next weekend, I’m running the Malibu Half-Marathon in the name of Movember. That’s a great reason to click here and donate to our team! And you don’t have to run a single mile … I’m doing it for you!

Check back later in the week for my NYC marathon report. I’m in NYC this week for meetings and was able to fly in early to support some friends who ran 26.2 miles through the five boroughs Sunday morning. So inspiring!
