The Body Issue

If you haven't seen the current issue yet, the Body Issue is out. It's the magazine with the naked athlete on the cover that's not covered in black plastic at the newsstand. There are six covers: Serena Williams, Carl Edwards, Gina Carano, Dwight Howard, Sarah Reinertsen and Adrian Peterson. Collect all six!

For my essay on female athletes using their bodies and looks as a marketing tool, called "For Sale By Owner," I logged 100+ hours of interviews. Stay tuned for a follow-up encyclopedia! Check out the story here.

Remember the day I spent in surgery with FMXer Blake "Bilko" Williams? Check out that story here. And be prepared. The photos and video are not for the weak stomached.

In the week since the magazine hit newsstands, it's received a lot of attention. The NY Times ran a piece on Oct. 12 about how magazines like ours are using these special issues to sell advertising. And it works. This is our biggest October issue ever. Impressive, considering those ads were sold in very tough financial times. Check out our EIC Gary Belsky talking to ABC News about the issue.

Next week, The Mag is hosting a Body Issue party in Los Angeles. I'll check back in with photos and a party report. In the meantime, I'm heading to NYC for meetings to plan our Olympic preview issue. Vancouver is less than four months away!
